Description: In-House Senior Corporate Counsel
We are collaborating with another search firm who has asked us to assist them on filling an in-house search in NYC. The position is with a for-profit company that is being spun out of a family office. They have existing business so this is not quite a start-up. Their business is a global education platform delivering compelling academic programs aligned with iconic and trusted brands.
They already partner with at least two such brands - one in NYC and one in London - and they are looking to build and develop expanding it globally by building education platforms K-12 and post-collegiate programs partnering with other iconic brands.
They are looking for a team player to work directly with the CEO in a highly collaborative and collegial environment to support the company's branded education business unit on general commercial legal matters, business transactions and regulatory compliance. The work will involve negotiating, drafting and managing complex legal agreements, including licensing and joint venture agreements, enterprise technology contracts, and other commercial agreements. The new hire may also be asked to develop and implement an effective compliance program. As Senior Team Member the person will collaborate with and advise the business teams on strategic legal matters. There may even be an opportunity to help with business development.
Our partner search firm is directly involved with the CEO and has met with the GC and Head of HR for the parent company. The company has minimal turnover and the culture is one of a high-functioning and collegial team. The CEO has reputation for being a visionary and easy to get along with he is thoughtful and looking for someone who can be his partner and an integral part of the business unit. The emphasis of the work will be on the corporate side of the business and he seems prepared to delegate the regulatory aspects to outside counsel.
This position is based in NYC and we are targeting someone with 7/8+ years of experience. Comp is in the $200s (probably capped at $250) with a 20-25% bonus target, and, for the right candidate there would probably be an equity piece and maybe a signing bonus. They would like to interview the week of Nov. 19th and come to a quick decision soon thereafter.
