Description: In-House Media General Counsel
We have been asked by a trusted partner search firm to help fill a unique in-house opportunity in NYC. The former president of one of the world's top 4 comic book companies is in the early stages of building a comic book media venture. The startup company will be making comic books to sell and market - via digital media and other distribution vehicles. The position requires experience drafting licensing, distribution and merchandising agreements while running the day to day legal functions of the company. You will be looking at all of the company's daily needs, drafting deals while involved in all aspects of the development of the company and the buildup of personnel that will eventually triple in size.
The startup is now made up of 6 people and will require someone committed to rolling up their sleeves and working within the team wherever needed. This is well-funded by a private equity consortium that is committed to a minimum of at least 3 years. While the GC does not necessarily need to come from an IP or Entertainment background, deep knowledge of corporate transactional work within the media sector will weigh heavily on the decision to hire. Must have a deep understanding of technology, digital media, licensing and corporate transactional work. 5-8 years' experience as an Associate or newly minted Partner works best.
Must be sensible and proactive while being entrepreneurial enough to run the shop. Ideal candidate must want to be in on the ground floor of the company. Compensation will be commensurate w/NYC comp level along with a serious long-range bonuses based on the overall measurable success of the company.
This is an immediate hire.
