Description: In-House Assoc.Director/Ph.D/Biological Sciences

Position: Associate Director

Notes: This dynamic and fast growing, publicly traded biopharmaceutical company is seeking an attorney for the role of Associate Director Patent Attorney � Portfolio Development. The attorney will assist with initiatives to develop global strategies for expanding the company's intellectual property protection around key molecules, platforms and other technologies to ensure the company's long-term competitive advantage. You will also be expected to support efforts in formulating the company's response to current IP legislative developments and IP policy issues.

This is a strategic position and although experience in patent prosecution is required, there is no patent prosecution work as part of this role. Responsibilities include:

conducting strategic IP due diligence, including analyzing the company's IP portfolio as well as the portfolios of competitors and potential collaborators; identifying opportunities for expanding the company's IP position and working with members of various business, legal, scientific and administrative groups within the company to take advantage of such opportunities; and managing the use of outside legal counsel and internal resources, as may be necessary, to fulfill the aforementioned responsibilities.

Ph.D. in biological sciences required, immunology preferred; JD as well as state bar (NY preferred) and a minimum of 6 years of law firm or in-house experience. Must have USPTO The ideal candidate will have a broad range of patent-related legal expertise including patent preparation and prosecution, IP due diligence, strategic counseling and licensing. Experience in contested matters such as IPRs and foreign oppositions a plus.Essential skills:

Strong communication skills, including presentation, interpersonal, writing and conflict resolution. Ability to work collaboratively with other personnel at the company and manage the use of outside legal counsel and service providers. Ability to meet aggressive deadlines, handle multiple complex legal matters and see projects through to conclusion.
